Out & About: DC to Dallas
Record Attendance as UT Southwestern hosts the Greater Dallas Healthcare Diversity Summit. That’s the headline that marked UT Southwestern’s internal newsletter article featuring Prism Health North Texas’ CEO, Dr. John Carlo.
Dr. Carlo visited his alma mater, UT Southwestern Medical School, on June 12th as the keynote speaker at the Greater Dallas Healthcare Diversity Summit. Dr. Carlo’s topic was “The State of LGBT Health Care & Best Practices for Health Equity.” In it, Dr. Carlo highlighted the lack of LGBT specific data and research available and how this creates a challenging landscape for addressing and eliminating stigma and discrimination within health care.
The Greater Dallas Healthcare Diversity Summit is in its 5th year in 2017. The goal of the event is to promote diversity and inclusion in health care through hearing from experts in the fields.
On Friday, June 23rd, Benjamin Callaway presented at the Franklin Square in Washington DC about the final results of the Health, Hope and Recovery program.
The talk, entitled Engaging Homeless, Multiply Diagnosed, HIV positive homeless persons into medical, psychiatric, and supportive services, covered the final outcomes and learned processes to successfully engage and positively impact multiply diagnosed individuals in homelessness. The presentation utilized audio and visual media to share participant dialogue and narratives of how they, as members of this population, managed the challenges they faced.
